Doug and Susan Manhire, Owners & Licensed Opticians

Doug and Susan are both licensed Opticians. They are skilled in the interpretation of your doctor’s prescription and are committed to making you the very best pair of glasses you have ever had, so you will see clearly and look wonderful! They specialize in the latest optical technology, grind all eyewear in their own on-premise lab, and stay up to date with the latest training, so they can provide their patients with the best measurements, fitting, and follow up care. Between them Doug and Susan share over 80 years of optical expertise and experience.

Doug is a homegrown New Jersey boy and was raised in Long Valley and Oldwick. He received comprehensive training in opticianry and optical technology from SUNY Buffalo in New York, as well as Macon Technological School in Georgia. Doug was the President of the New Jersey Guild of Opticians, as well as Vice President of the Society of Dispensing Opticians.

Susan is a Pittsburgh girl and moved to New Jersey in 1969. She received her optical education from Raritan Valley Community College. Susan was one of the original trustees of the Hackettstown Foundation for Educational Excellence. She is also a lifetime member of the Hackettstown PTA and has often volunteered in the schools.

The Manhires believe in “giving back.” They support local businesses, schools, and churches by contributing both time and money. They have strong ties to the local surrounding communities and believe that it is important to remain active and supportive.

Doug and Susan have been happily married for 46 1/2 years, have two adult children, and live on a Gentleman’s Farm. In his free time, Doug enjoys antique tractor pulling and tending to his hay farm. Susan is an accomplished voice-over artist and enjoys pottery.
